Building Inspection

As a property owner, you're completely invested. That's why the Polk County Building Inspection department has made it their mission to protect that investment by providing inspection services on residential and commercial buildings. This process helps make sure compliance requirements are met with the minimum provisions of mandatory building codes, as required by state law. These enforcements provide health, safety, and welfare of the general public, tax payers, and citizens.

NOTICE: NEW MINIMUM STANDARD CODES EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2026

The Department of Community Affairs has adopted new mandatory State Minimum Standard Codes with Georgia Amendments which will become effective on January 1, 2026.

The new code amendments are as follows: 
2024 International Residential Code (IRC) with Georgia Amendments
2024 International Building Code (IBC) with Georgia Amendments
2024 International Mechanical Code (IMC) with Georgia Amendments
2024 International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC) with Georgia Amendments
2024 International Plumbing Code (IPC) with Georgia Amendments
2024 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code (ISPSC) with Georgia Amendments
2026 Georgia Amendments to the 2023 National Electrical Code (NEC)

The new Georgia State Codes and Amendments will become effective on January 1, 2026. Copies of the current Georgia State Amendments are available on DCA's webpage at this link: Department of Community Affairs

FORMS AND APPLICATIONS

NOTICE: ALL FORMS MUST BE RETURNED AND PAID FOR IN-PERSON. AT THIS TIME, WE CANNOT ACCEPT PAYMENT VIA PHONE OR EMAIL. WE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS MAY CAUSE.

All forms must be returned and paid for in-person. At this time, we cannot accept payment via phone or email. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Please ensure that each item on the Required Inspection Checklist pertaining to your inspection has been completed prior to scheduled inspection.
A $50 reinspection fee will be changed for inspections scheduled that are not ready when the inspector arrives.
