Pets for Adoption
Adoption Fees: Dogs - $40 Cats - $25
Polk County Animal Control has stray and adoptable animals that are available during regular business hours.

Sec. 10-24. - Retention of animals; adoption of animals.

Animals brought to the shelter by either citizens or staff shall be retained according to the following guidelines:

(a) Animals which appear to be adoptable via breed or condition, or appear to have had reasonably good care, or in good health, or having collars or exhibiting other signs of ownership shall be retained for a minimum of five working days, beginning the day after being turned in or picked up, before being placed for adoption or humanely destroyed.

(b) Animals which are judged to not be adoptable, or are sickly in appearance, or are malnourished, or having no collar or other signs of ownership shall be retained for a minimum of three working days, beginning the day after being turned in or picked up, before being placed for adoption or humanely destroyed.

(c) In rare cases of animals being near death or judged unsalvageable, or diseased to an extent of posing a great harm to other animals in the shelter, or at a stage in life or health condition whereby it would be inhumane to continue their suffering, the animal control director, with the concurrence of the shelter's veterinarian, may determine the appropriate time of retention.

(d) The animal control director has the right to deny/refuse any adoption at his discretion.

(e) The county board of commissioners shall determine adoption fees by resolution.

(f) Unclaimed animals shall not be released to laboratories for experimentation or similar organizations for similar purposes.

This event was organized by Polk County native National Guard Recruiter Sgt. Allison Davenport, Polk County Animal Shelter Director Jeff Crawford, and Friends of PCAC. Sgt. Davenport was accompanied by Pvt Taylor Haas, Pvt Jimmy Davis, Ana Anguiano, and Jeremy Atwood.   

Local Army National Guard members and supporters volunteered at the Polk County Animal Control Shelter Tuesday, March 29th. The volunteers assisted in walking the dogs, giving baths, spring cleaning at the shelter, and any other needed volunteer tasks. 

Sgt. Davenport stated, "We want Polk, Haralson, and Floyd counties to know the National Guard and local supporters are here to support the community in any way we can. It is a privilege to be able to support and better the communities where I was born and raised."
